We went out of the house in Toms River for a WDI inspection as a preventative measure, upon entering the crawl space, we immediately smelled mold. I looked around and could see the floor joists were covered with a white substance which turned out to be mold. They also didn’t have a vapor barrier on the floor. The moisture from the floor was causing condensation and causing the mold issue.
We let the customer know they had mold, and that the crawl space could really benefit from crawl space encapsulation and a dehumidifier and needed a mold treatment.
First, we did a full mold treatment, then put in a 20 mil vapor barrier and closed off all the outside air from coming into the crawl space by sealing the vents. We insulated the walls and the floor to keep their home warmer and help save energy costs. We then installed a professional grade dehumidifier to control the relative humidity.
We highly recommend yearly inspections of your crawl space to maintain the sump pump, dehumidifier and inspect for wood-destroying insects.
