This mold treatment job in Brick had us pulling down all the insulation as well as the old vapor barrier. We bagged it and then disposed it . We first treated the areas with mold by applying our EPA-registered anti-microbial using electrostatic fogging, which kills any surface mold as well as any airborne mold spores. We then applied our patented polymer sealant, also using electrostatic fogging. This unique sealant is available only to authorized pest control operators licensed to apply chemical products inside structures. This sealant destroys mold at the cellular level. Any mold we treat is rendered inert, harmless, and non-allergenic. The sealant is also moisture-sensitive and reactivates to prevent the return of any new mold growth in the treated areas. In order words, the sealant not only kills today’s mold growth; it stops tomorrow’s growth as well.

Lastly we installed dehumidifier with drain hose. Who wants to worry about emptying the dehumidifier in your crawl space?

A Brick, NJ, homeowners was cleaning out their basement and removing some unwanted furniture. When moving a piece of furniture away from the wall, they found some mold growth on the paneling. Mold will attach to any surface containing organic material, including most building materials made with wood or natural fibers. Mold often forms in basements and crawl spaces because of high humidity levels and since these areas of the home are either nonliving spaces or not utilized that often, mold can go undetected for quite some time. Unfortunately, mold spores from down below will travel on air currents throughout the home, and is often responsible for unexplained “allergies” of the home’s occupants.

The homeowners immediately realized they had a problem and contacted us to have the mold treated. Cowleys has a specialized division involved in mold treatment, and our treatment process involves treating the mold (a living, breathing type of fungus) directly rather than simply tearing out any building materials on which the mold is growing. In fact, if the mold-affected building materials have not lost their structural integrity, we are able to treat the superficial mold growth, avoiding the unnecessary removal of building materials. As in many of our mold removal projects, we were able to treat the mold in less than a day.

We treated the mold-contaminated paneling with an EPA-registered antimicrobial (MAPS 1) followed by a patented sealant (MAPS 2). This sealant, available to licensed distributors, kills the mold at the cellular level. It also has the ability to reactivate with moisture to prevent any future mold growth. After we treated the mold, we installed a commercial grade whole-house SaniDry Sedona dehumidifier. These dehumidifiers are specifically designed to work in the challenging environment of basements and crawl spaces and operate 24/7, turning on and off automatically using a built-in hygrometer. There is no water pan to empty or overflow. Instead, these worry-free machines are installed to to drain into a sump pump or other drainage system. These dehumidifiers keep down indoor humidity and moisture to levels where mold will not form. It is the best (and only) long-term way to prevent mold growth caused by high indoor humidity. Also, these machines produce clean, dry air, eliminating those musty odors and muggy environment caused by high humidity. With these dehumidifiers, dust mites are filtered out and indoor air quality is dramatically improved. This has substantial health benefits, especially if there are household members with allergies or asthma or there are very young or elderly individuals residing in the home.

Treating Mold in Brick, NJ Beach House

The owners of a beach house in Brick, NJ found themselves with an unpleasant surprise when they returned to get the home ready for summer: there was mold growing behind a cabinet and drywall. They contacted Cowleys Mold Solutions and a two-man crew was dispatched to treat the mold.

The homeowner wanted us to removing the cabinet, which was no problem. However, he was hoping to avoid a tear-out and replacement of the drywall panels that had developed mold. Since there was no structural damage to the drywall, we could potentially leave it in depending on whether there was some behind the drywall responsible for the mold growth, and whether we needed to access the area in order to fix the problem. Mold is a sign that a home has some type of water intrusion or chronic moisture from high humidity. While it is important to treat the mold, it is just as important to address the underlying problem that’s causing mold growth in the first place. Otherwise, the mold will return. To check behind the drywall, we cut out four small “peepholes” at the tops and bottoms of each moldy area of the drywall so we could visually access the wall void and determine the water source triggering the mold growth. As it turned out, a condensation drain for AC was dumping water into a bay directly above the mold-affected infected area. We repositioned the condensation line so it would drain water away from the home.

We treated the mold problem with our mold treatment process that that involves two separate applications. First, we applied an EPA-registered antimicrobial (MAPS 1) to the affected areas. Next, we applied our patented sealant (MAPS 2), for which Cowleys is a licensed distributor. This sealant kills molds on contact at the cellular level rendering it inert and harmless. Mold is dangerous because its airborne spores can cause various respiratory problems, and some strains of mold contain actual toxins. This sealant is also moisture-sensitive. If the conditions that trigger mold growth return, this sealant has the ability to reactivate and kill any new mold growth in the treated areas. The owners were pleased that we could complete this job in less than a day, that the drywall could be saved thereby avoiding a tear-out/renovation project. And, most important for them, there would be no delays in using the beach house over the summer.
